PayPal Up For Sale

from the p2p-to-someone-else dept

The latest talk is that PayPal is now up for sale though they deny it. Sources at a company that was approached to buy them (thus making it a pretty good source) say they were offered PayPal for $500 million. I like the concept of PayPal, and think it probably could be a useful service. Of course, once all banks offer the same basic services over their own online banking solution it won’t matter any more. I’d also like to complain for a second about PayPal calling themselves a “P2P” company. Again, I think they’ve picked up on a buzzword and gone to far with it. The concept of P2P is having two distributed computers talk to each other. That’s not what PayPal is all about.
