How To Position Layoff News

from the an-interesting-contrast dept

One thing you find when you read a lot of news is that different reporters/websites/magazines have very different takes on the same bit of news. Here’s a good example. The @NewYork staff chose to position the latest layoff news by pointing out (optimistically) that layoffs numbers in February at dot coms were slipping downward from a January high. Now, take the exact same news (and in fact similar stories) from the point of view of an Australian info tech site, and you find out that dot com layoffs have become an avalanche. Yet, they’re both reporting on exactly the same Challenger, Gray report.
