Indiana University Student Records Taken

from the oops dept

Someone anonymously submitted a story yesterday about the student records at the Indiana University being hacked. There was no link or details with the story, so I didn’t post it. Now, however, more details are appearing. It seems that someone was looking for an open hard drive to store some MP3s on, (maybe they were testing that ShareSniffer program) and found the computer at Indiana University. Apparently, it was misconfigured after it went down and the usual person to set it back up was out sick. In “retreiving” some of the mp3s, the person also took records of over 3000 students including social security numbers. The University is hoping they just deleted this file after realizing it wasn’t mp3s.
