Exploiting Volunteers Online

from the seems-a-bit-extreme dept

An interesting article in Forbes about another article they’ve written in Forbes ASAP concerning the problems with exploiting volunteers online. The article mainly focuses on the AOL case and basically says AOL is at fault because they realized five years ago that many of their volunteers were probably defacto employees. I still think that these people knew they were volunteers and signed up to do the work without pay – which the company accepted. If at any time they felt they were being exploited they should have stopped doing the work. It’s just that simple.
