Kids Are Leery Of Chat Room Friends

from the not-so-stupid,-are-they? dept

Despite over-protective parents and governments’ fears, it seems that most kids realize that the people they meet in chat rooms may not be the same in real life as they are online. This goes back to what I’ve said in the past. If people teach their kids to think critically, rather than simply trying to block and censor access they might be amazed at how well adjusted their kids turn out. Of course, I’m not completely clear on the methodology of the study, since there could have been plenty of other factors (such as geographic distance) that prevented kids from meeting their online friends.
