Pay To Link

from the putting-techdirt-out-of-business dept

In the quest for business models, some contents sites are being stupid. While it used to be that you wanted traffic, apparently, some sites are now figuring out ways to turn away traffic. Some content sites are now charging people who link to their news. If this became widespread, sites like Techdirt would be shut down. Of course, it’s close to impossible to enforce such things. Also, it’s amusing that the editor of the site they talked to with the policy to charge $50 per link had no idea about the policy and was surprised to hear of it. Maybe I should turn it around and charge companies $100 for the “privilege” of being linked from Techdirt.
