Whoring For Downloads
from the come-and-get-it... dept
An interesting article over at Salon about the lengths musicians will now go to in order to get their songs into the top 40 downloads on MP3.com (for which they make money). Definitely shows how the music industry is changing…

Reminds me
You know this story reminds me of the quote from Marge Simpson in the Simpsons episode where Lisa gets married: “You know, Fox turned into a hardcore sex channel so gradually, I didn’t even notice.” I think this is where we’re headed, as we turn our cheek to more and more. Do I mind? Meh (disinterested sound), it corrupted me, but what’re you gonna do? However, the point remains – should musicians make money not from their music, but from the visuals that accompany it? Or, in the second sex case in the article, from the content it represents (female orgasms with music in the background)? I understand why they’re doing what they’re doing, but they’re debasing themselves to do it – it’s no longer “about the music”, it’s about the money. So now, basically, instead of “faceless corporations” trying to do everything to sell their bands, it’s musicians who will go even further to do the same thing. Where will it stop?
