How Global Sports Beat Fogdog

from the it's-all-about-the-business-model,-stupid dept

For those of you who haven’t had the point driven home by every other article in the last six months, can I remind you that business models are important again? At least, that’s the explanation for why Global Sports was able to beat (and eventually acquire) “first mover” Fogdog in the online sporting goods game. Basically, Global Sports found a model that actually would make them money, while Fogdog just built an online store, supported with goofy TV advertising. I wonder, however, how many good business ideas didn’t get funded (or weren’t even started) due to last year’s need for goofy dot com TV commercials.
