Here’s a simple idea that actually makes some sense. A company has been enlisting local shops and cafes to received packages for local residents. A lot of people have problems with ordering goods online because they’re never home to receive them. So, with PaxZones, nearby merchants agree to receive and store the packages until the residents can come get them. For the merchants, it brings in more foot traffic. For the customers it’s more convenient (in theory). For PaxZones? Well, that part is not clear. I’m not sure where they get their money from. The idea is that they may charge the merchants to get their special storage boxes. Now, if you combine this with Kozmo or Webvan to deliver the packages from the merchants to you at the exact time you want it…

<P><br>This sounds like a great idea. I know I’ve been screwed over by UPS/FedEX/USPS/insert-your-delivery-bitches-here, and I’ve seen some very scary almost fuck-ups. Case in point:</P><br><P><br>My roomate orders a Sony Glasstron (you know, the 50″ tv for your eyes). He orders it with explicit instructions to deliver the package to our apartment complex office, NOT to our apartment. No one was going to be home, and he didn’t want the package returned to the FedEX office.</P><br><P><br>So, I come home that afternoon from work for a late lunch, and there’s a small brown box with Sony in huge letters emblazoned on it sitting on my doorstep. There’s no packing slip, no address label, nothing. So I think “Cool. A letter bomb. The UniBomber’s back :”.</P><br><P><br>I take it inside and after a quick call to my roomie, I find a bitchin’ pair of Sony Glasstrons in the box. Hoo boy was he pissed! I, on the other hand, got to experience the joy that is Crazy Taxi in full 50″ splendor</P><br><P><br>So, my point is, PaxZone sounds like a sweet idea :)</P><br><br><br>–<br><br>Mando

I agree, it would even be useful here in England. The royal mail are one of the biggest package delivery firms (alongside those that you listed) but they always take it back to their depot (which is always too far away and inconvienient). Guess what? This space is wide open in the UK and the rest of Europe, anyone interested?
