CNET buys Ziff-Davis: a jerk of the leash?

Kelly McNeill writes “By now everyone’s heard and read about CNET’s buyout of Ziff Davis. Better yet, everyone’s opined about it. I, myself, am leery. Like Slashdot, I’m increasingly worried about the consolidation of the computer media, My principal concern is what’s to prevent the investors from jerking the leash against a magazine or the website against the more outspoken or independent-minded journalists and columnists who are frankly outspoken against the received wisdom?” Also, here’s some thoughts on the merger from one of C(ZD)NET’s few remaining competitors: IDG’s PC World can barely hide their disgust about the deal.
