Is Dot Com a Bad Thing?

from the who-cares? dept

I’ve seen a number of articles like the following one lately. It’s all about how companies are stupid for having a “dot com” name any more. The article doesn’t actually give any reasons why it’s stupid other than that it’s no longer the “in” thing to do, and idiot investors might not like you any more. My opinion? Who cares about the name? What’s the business model? I mean, branding is definitely important, but I think people are just getting silly when they say they won’t do business with a company that has a dot com in their name. These are the same people who would only do business with a dot com six months ago.
