Franchises and the Web

The whole concept of franchises is that someone would buy the rights to a certain brand and product for a certain location. How does that fit with the internet, when geographic locations are becoming less and less important? That’s the subject of this article that shows how franchisees are discovering conflicts with their web presence. If the main company sets up a website, are they competing in the same geographic location as the franchise? If the franchise sets up a website, are they expanding beyond their geographic limits?
