Visor is launched
from the get-one-quick dept
Dan Miller writes “HandSpring officially unveiled the new Visor line of handhelds today. These looks like cool little machines that are truly expandable. My take is that 3Com better spin Palm off quickly to keep it from merely becoming a software provider to companies like HandSpring.” Here’s News.com’s article on the launch.

These look truly sweet.
They’ve managed to integrate an expansion slot without giving up ANY of the Palm computers’ major strengths. It’s great that they thought of the effect on battery life, etc. of the peripherals, and that they will be truly plug and play.
It looks like they’ve pushed the platform ahead on all fronts. Now let’s wait until they ship in October and see what they’re like in the real world.

Allnetdevices.com has an interesting analysis on Handspring’s impact on the future of Palm Computing. They assert that Handspring is going after the “tech-casual” user, while Palm is better suited to go after the enterprise user.
Re: Palm v. Handspring
Even if Handspring is going for the more casual user, those expansion slots have the potential to be pretty useful to just about anyone. I wonder if Palm will end up following suit.
