Europe has always had a lead over the US in terms of mobile phone services. Europe had digital phones before us and now it seems they will get wireless data before us. Wapit Ltd of Finland is already working on a WAP (Wireless Access Protocol)portal for WAP capable phones.

They handed out a press release at the last WAPforum meeting saying that they’re going to open source (not sure what definition they’re using though) their WAP gateway software. At least they understand the value of commodity infrastructure.
