Linux Marketshare growing

Dataquest is predicting that Linux will be running on 25% of server type machines by 2003. You would assume that this is great news for Linux distributors like Redhat and Caldera. But I wonder if it wouldn’t be easier for server companies to go with their own souped up distributions. Why let someone become the next Microsoft if you don’t have to?
