Ads on Palm VII?
from the how-to-kill-demand dept
OK, I can’t even get a Palm VII yet, but now come reports that Palm may charge for placement for icons and use some kind of banner-style advertisement vehicle. If they charge for access based on usage, will I pay for these banners to appear on my Palm? Or, will they not charge for acccess in exchange for showing the ads on my Palm? Given that a standard-size banner would just about swamp the screen and bandwith, they’ve got some issues to iron out…

Update
Note that this was reported in WSJ; when I find it on a non-subscription site, I’ll link here. Also, pdamart (www.pdamart.com) announced yesterday that they are the first sanctioned web retailer for Palm VIIs, so you can now officially buy them everywhere. But at $619 (shipping included), and this advertising question, I’m going to hold off, thanks.
I like the Palm ad idea...
as long as it drops my monthly service plan rate. If it does, it will lower the variable costs for many of us encouraging more people to adopt. Ultimately, 3COM and their partners will have to go to a higher bandwidth network and will provide more query applications. Sounds like a good deal to me.
