CMGI Looking to Buy AltaVista

Apparently, CMGI is thinking about buying AltaVista. It’s no surprise that Compaq probably wants to sell AltaVista, and its related net properties, since it has its own problems to deal with, and figuring out a net venture probably isn’t at the top of their list right now. CMGI is probably a good buyer, due to their net knowledge, but how does this fit with the fact that they already own a significant part of Lycos? That might not be that big of an issue, actually. It would be interesting to see what CMGI does with the AltaVista (and related properties).
