Microsoft Buying in to AT&T

Comcast dropped their bid for MediaOne yesterday, and now there are rumors circulating that part of the reason is a new deal coming out between AT&T and Microsoft, where Microsoft will pay AT&T $5 billion for a 2 to 3% stake in the company. Obviously, this is a small amount, but it’s still a very big deal.

The deal here is forcing Windows CE onto set-top b
As part of the deal, AT&T agrees to field an additional 2.5 to 5 million WinCE set-top boxes, for a total of 7.5 to 10 million boxes. Microsoft is buying themselves a foothold in the playing field.
The prospect of running WinCE on anything I might potentially own does not exactly fill me with glee.
