Compaq to Sell on the Web Again

from the it's-about-time dept

Compaq, who made the ridiculous move of stopping sales through internet only resellers, has reversed that policy. I still think it’s a half-assed move, though. They have a detailed set of rules before a reseller can sell the product. One of those rules is a minimum price they can charge. For some reason (I guess I’m wrong) I thought that was illegal. I thought that manufacturers can’t force pricing decisions on resellers. It’s a stupid policy, anyway. If a company wants to sell Compaq’s at a loss, why is that Compaq’s problem? They’re still making the same amount of money per machine they sell to that reseller.
