    Amanda Palmer in Houston

I went and saw Amanda Palmer and her band at a local club this week. It was one of the most fun shows I have seen in years. They had the guest musicians play along with 2 or 3 songs, then she thanked them for their help and allowed the leader of the group take the microphone and tell the audience about the quartet's current project and where they would be performing. Then Amanda related what they were doing to a performance of Baryshnikov she saw as a child in NYC. The musicians obviously excited to be there and probably doubled the attendance to their experimental show.. what's the problem again?

    Paul's other activities

He doesn't sound that pleasant at all: From the the New York Times:

Ms. Rosen, who had supported Mr. Zukofsky on the U.S.C. search committee, said that once he got the job, he "antagonized everyone." "He totally misread the city," she said.

    Scams

A while back, someone went through my trash and dug up enough data to create counterfeit checks. They then took them to every Dillards Store in and around Houston and purchased ~$200 per check.

I was very lucky in that I was watching the account due to a large check I had outstanding and immediately noticed the strange check #'s that showed up. In the subsequent weeks of dealing with the fraud department of BofA, I was flabbergasted in the archaic way that banks handle things.. I had to call the credit agencies (Experian and equifax come to mind) and argue with them, trying to tell the idiots that the account was closed and DO NOT TAKE MY CHECKS...

    iPhone and Linux

I don't hate the iPhone (or automatics). However, the last time I checked, Apple did not make a version of itunes for linux. They don't want me as a customer and I don't want to argue. If they decide to officially support my operating system, i would consider getting one. Right now I have a RAZR that costs me $10/month as an addon to my husband's account. It does what I need a cell phone for and is cheap. It can also use my VIVO sim chip so I have a local number when I am in Brazil. And yes.. my car is a 6-speed standard (Honda S2000) that is much more fun any any automatic I have owned.
