It may seem so but..
1. If it happens en mass as is happening now, the short term pay out is speed up.
2. If the workers has worked longer they would have be contributing into the system longer and would be requesting benefits at a time when we might have had "fixed" the system.
As a software developer this argument is of concern to me. I am against broad patents but i would like to profit from my work and not have it copied by a competitor.
But when Mr Jakes says that our economy is based on industrial process i wonder what is going to happen when he realizes that we have moved to depending more on information processes to generate wealth.
I have to wonder what would have happened if the spread sheet or the word processor were patented (i dont think that they were).
Should we discard all patents and just persecute cases of industrial espionage and blatant idea thief instead.
There is one difference between GPS phones and Camera Phones. A Droid like form factor phone will have superior characteristics to a stand alone GPS. Internet access opens up a lot. From always to to date maps to an infinite POI list to really real time traffic and weather alerts etc. Then add to that Google street view Cell phone cameras suck. There will always be ways be a market for stand alone cameras because its "impossible" to have a "good" camera in a really thin form factor. But cell camera are getting to the just good enough stage for us ho just want to upload to facebook. :)
Google is onto something.
