Seems a little unfair to say he went crazy until the stars were fixed in Titanic. That's a hyperbolic retelling of his own amusing story.
As for his tweet, I'd be more worried about it if it was someone who was supposed to know about computer security, I also don't hold people to their 140 character brain farts.
This is a bit of a straw man you just setup. Most people who upload copyrighted videos to youtube and the like usually do just have the video removed. It's only when they become repeat infringers that they have they're accounts banned.
Also, it had nothing to do with his personal site, it was on soundcloud.
I'm by no means for copyright as it is today but I am for balanced and fair debate with as few logical fallacies and false premises as possible.
It seems a lot of you have strange ideas regarding this.
I'm a web designer and forum owner, and I welcome this idea. It's not hard to give a person a "delete my account" button. You don't even need to remove the posts, just remove the name associated with the posts.
This is more to do with facebook, google and other massive websites building profiles on it's users, then keeping it forever. Facebook starts making a profile for you even if you don't have a facebook account. All they need to do is give the option to the user to hard erase all information connected to their account, that's not hard, that's not infeasible. So this won't be used to to delete random comments, but to delete the profiles sites make on you.
I think you're all taking the word "forgotten" way too literally, of course they don't think the information will be forgotten, but it will be deleted.
Seriously, I've been reading techdirt for years and agree with 95% of what Mike and his writers have to say, but one thing that just annoys the hell out of me is that no one can have an opposite opinion to the masses on this blog without being called
a) troll
b) shill
c) [insert common insult]
etc etc
If the ideas portrayed here are to stand any ground we need to win debates on their own merit, not flag posts as trolling and have them hidden simply because they have an opposite or inflammatory opinion.
I've been loosing interest in the comments area here as debate is simply stifled and it just becomes an attack on the other opinion.
A lot of people here need to grow up, stop hiding behind anonymity and debate the subjects at hand without name calling and without resulting the abc's above.
So you've not heard the "your files, any where, any time, any device" like promises?
The problem I have with "the cloud" is that none of the "cloud" companies actually fit the definition they gave "the cloud", they just fit file upload services, the same that's been around for a very long time.
Re: Another gas giant.
What do you mean he doesn't even get the basic philosophy of science right?
Most people have no way to fact check any scientific claim, what's that got to do with Neil?
unfair

Re: Really?
Apparently PRMan has never used nzb's...
Isn't it obvious?
You're posting pictures of your pussy on facebook!
Re: I should get my mind out of the gutter
I'd say it's bad considering that it's not the type of poppy used for opium production. The opium poppy looks nothing like the remembrance poppy.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Expanding on the above..
Duke was pointing out the the UK is not the Same as England, so there is no Rules of Civil Procedure for the UK.
Re: Censorship and First Amendment
Sorry to have to break this to you, but your constitution and amendments to said document have no jurisdiction outside of your borders.

Being in the UK, our AAA games cost the same as yours, in number only, ?60 for a new game, works out at about $95 for these games. It's ridiculous.
Amazon
I thought it was common knowledge that Amazon is a horrifically disgusting company ran by a psychopathic dictator.
what is wrong with this community?!

In summary, grow up and learn to debate topics.
Re:
erm... no they don't.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: typo
that does make a lot more sense.
Re: Re: Re: typo
So you edited your post when it was fixed?

If this was a simple debate then the pro-copyright side wouldn't need to streth, spin and down right make up their facts and numbers.
So, is it morally acceptable to hold human culture to ransom, that's a fairly recent idea.
Here is an important fact many of you have overlooked.
WorldStream = Datacenter
Alejandra Transporte = ISP
The datacenter handed over the servers not the ISP.
Couldn't harrah's be done for perverting the course of justice?
