I drive for Uber and Lyft. I see tons of people every night who might have driven home after a couple of drinks choose otherwise. I will admit there are people who might not have had any drinks that will now drink now that ridesharing services are available, but to discount the obvious mitigation of drunk driving due to ridesharing is not sane.
First, you can only look at the reducing affects of ridesharing by only looking at the population which actively uses ridesharing. Regulation and market friction keeps ridesharing from being anything but a small force on society, so for most of the drinking public ridesharing is a non factor. Their drunk driving is irregardless of the availability of an uber. If you localize within the population which is actively engaged in ridesharing usage and determine the rate of drunk driving within that population, you will see the true effects. A can of wasp spray has no measurable effect on the mortality of wasps worldwide, but it has a substantial effect in my garage.
These studies are a non story, and have the smell of corporate funding from a friendly source.
If a person finds a poorly configured system and uses their neglect to access a database felt secure, how can they claim unauthorized access? They were responsible for te choice of software and configuration. The responsibility lies solely with the owner of the database. He used the configuration the organization set up to access the data. Had he used an independent program to access the database through external software tools, that's hacking as hell.
$20 that within 2 weeks someone will have broken and extracted a substantial amount of data from ADP's system. Their pdf is basically daring an organization to try to penetrate their robust and industry leading security processes.

I'm reading the Sterling Sentencing Memorandum, but I'm not seeing where the Judge said that his sentence should be more than Kirakou because he plead not guilty.
Once I do, I'm submitting a complaint to the court about it.
"She said Sterling should serve more time because Kiriakou had pleaded guilty whereas Sterling pleaded innocent and was found guilty by a jury."
WTF? Are you telling me that a sitting judge acknowledges that people who exercise their rights should be penalized for doing so? How is this not a big deal?
...for the win.

I've never been through the clearance process, but I wonder if the process could leave the executives open to coercion due to extralegal or experimental behavior coming out of it.
It's about as useful as pissing into the wind, but why not.

...If God had a sense of humor this would've been Executive Order 66.
The US broadband speeds will never be in excess of what the Intelligence community can monitor through their systems. If the NSA had to build a west coast center because the amount of data was a burden for them to transmit across the continent at current speeds, imagine the amount of trouble they would have if everyone was at 1 gb speeds. The data would choke their systems, therefore 1 gb speeds are 1 off situations which consumers don't really want anyway.
I don't believe the US would've done this, and that's sad. Of course, we would've never know due to the NSL's.
It's a ridiculously bad bluff. If CBS went internet and cable only, the cost to them in advertising would be immense, and the litigation with local affiliates would last for decades and be a huge albatross on Blackrock.
Let them huff and puff, but this is the biggest of huff and puff with absolutely no potential threat.
I think you are exactly right, but I don't think the hue and cry should start yet. The two of them are in with Congress fighting for the right to be king of all media. Men like that will ratchet the intensity up a notch if their program and their career's are on the line.
After Udall and Co. have had their chance, somebody needs to get omto whitehouse.gov and start a petition. It'll be over 100k in about 3 hours.
Value of Your Work
I visit your site multiple times a day, and it's one of the first I visit. I value your work, and I hope it continues. If you're life was a movie then this would be the beginning of the second act. It parallels so much of the topics you cover, and I hope this movie has a happy ending.
