Of course they don't want to pay .. Why would they ... you can get HDTV free over the air in large metropolitan areas with an antenna ... and the internet certainly is just a broader range antenna .. We certainly already do pay for that ... Plus consumers already pay for TV by the inclusion of commercials in the programming ... Why we they pay twice?
If you live in a metropolitan area you can watch tv for free with the cost paid for by the many commercials included in the show.
I don't understand why getting those same shows with commercials over the internet (just a broader tv antenna) should cost money.
The fact is that lots of tv content is free over the air if you live within antenna distance. So I can't fathom why some people insist it should cost a boatload of money to get it from a longer distance over a wire instead!
As for bandwidth costs .. According to their annual reports last year it cost Time Warner about $1.33 per month per customer to deliver broadband. (Yes ... that is quite a markup when they charge $45 a month)
It should be illegal to sell tickets for anything above face value ... PERIOD!
You nailed it ... if they can't lock you in to cable tv they'll cap your internet to discourage free tv.
Most people have no choice ... only 1 provider available.
This is one of those instances where "There ought to be a law"!
Paywalls and google news
Another Google News user took the words right out of my mouth ... I couldn't have said it better.
"I know that there are some commercial news sites that Google indexes who feel that people should not be able to read their content for free. I would like to be able to configure my preferences so that I don't have to see their "teaser" blurbs. I prefer to go from Google directly to the information I'm looking for, and I am never looking for a teaser blurb or a registration only site."
