First, I am against current restrictive copyright laws and I do agree that it is a waste of time to fight "piracy".
Having said that, the reasoning used in this post is flawed. This phenomenon might have been observed because of on of these many reasons:
1. People pirating buy more stuff
2. People buying more stuff are pirating
3. Some people have higher information needs and they are pirating and buying more stuff.
It is possible to design a better experiment to determine validity of any of these hypothesis.
Just because proponents of copyright use false reasoning doesnt mean you should be doing the same.
Hey Wil,
I was visiting his website and couldnt find any full size samples (except the spy song which was there because of that video contest).
I thought he was a bit possessive of his music (not as possessive as mainstream artists I agree). If his goal is to sell the concept of freshness he shouldn't be worried about people "stealing" his old music.
If he wants to increase his fan base, then my suggestion: load a few songs which he considers best to youtube and link them from his website.
BTW, I live in MA. I kind of liked that spy song. If he posts a few more and if I end up liking them.........
Very nice idea matt. And good luck.
I had a couple of questions. Do you have a streaming link to your music (not snippets but the whole songs). And how would you feel if one of your subscriber shares his/her collection through torrents (or other public modes).
GET OVER IT!!!
Yes. The Peace and, sometimes, the literature prizes are politically motivated. But most of the science prizes go to the eligible people (there are significant omissions, but the winners have made a significant contribution).
It is impossible to build a perfect governance system. But I would prefer living in US any day rather than in China.
Which London are you talking about? London,ON ?
Can you please put a paywall on foxnews? Please... Please....
You get them with advanced membership ($10/month).
Follow these steps:
1. Buy the magazine Journalist's Club
2. Look for the form on the last page
3. Fill it out and send with a $100 check
There are many such laws in EU. Eg. Whiskey not produced in scotland may not be labeled "scotch".
Now we know why he is 50 cents and not 100. He lost the other 50 due to piracy.
Making content more like a physical property is fine with me. But I should also get all the privileges too.
1. I should be able to resell content (just like I sold my old car last month)
2. I should be able to return content (just like the crappy blender I returned to walmart)
"The thing is, most people understand what's going on with file sharing, and they think (accurately, in my opinion) that the real issue is that musicians need to embrace newer, better business models"
I don't think most people understand the issue. In my humble opinion most people think illegal downloading is immoral, but they do it anyway.
This is a wonderful piece of work, much better than an amateur creation. I watched this movie online for free and liked it. I would have paid $10 to watch it in a theater or $1 to rent it through redbox.
It is good to hear that she made some money out of this venture. But I wonder how much she would have made if this movie was released commercially. Also how much exposure she would have got.
Probably she will win the case. Then insurance companies start offering unemployment insurance to the colleges. Colleges start charging additional fees to cover insurance costs............so on
I love "manual" cars and I just bought a iPhone and I am loving it too. iPhone could have been better if apple/ATT were not so control freaks (arbitrarily rejecting the apps).
