  • Zero Tolerance Policies Put Students In The Hands Of Bad Cops

    Militarized Police Force

This is simply an extension of the Militarization of our police forces. They see themselves more as an army than public safety. Extending that power into schools is just a way to expand their power and to condition children to fear the police and expect to have their rights trampled on a regular basis.

It's time for people to stop accepting BS like this. Nothing positive comes from it, and plenty of negative comes from it.

  • If You've Got Nothing To Hide, You've Actually Got Plenty To Hide

I remember the 70's and 80's with all of the talk and cultural reference's to the surveillance state in the USSR. What a joke!

No totalitarian government has even though of this kind of surveillance. I'd bet China is jealous that they hadn't gone this far yet! It's getting to where you have to travel with ID, err, papers comrade.

The effect of terrorism is that the terrorist won. They have conned us into giving up our basic freedoms to protect us from attacks that aren't coming. They won, plain and simple. they scared us a little, and we collapsed. We forked over our freedoms, we ditched any sort of morals we had about torture, and laid down like toothless lions.

Our founders are turning in their graves, the NSA is monitoring them too! :P

The other big thing here is does this information and capability make its way into the hands of private corporations? I have to believe given the deep hooks corporate America has into our government, it's not far fetched to believe there are private citizens who have access to this power.

It almost reminds me of the situation where an admin at a used car lot can run credit checks on boyfriends without
much fear of being caught. It seems these people can pretty much do whatever they want without any fear of repercussions. There need to be clear repercussions of misusing this capability.

How many of us would value an ISP these days that didn't just roll over and give into the US government!

  • Dan Brown: Video Games Lead To Violence

    LJW ( profile ), 06 Jun, 2013 @ 07:24am

    Facts don't matter?

I guess Mr. Brown isn't used to dealing with facts. More people than ever play violent video games. Overall violent crime has been dropping for 30+ years now.

If Mr. Brown and his ilk were remotely correct, the US should be something like Escape from NY! The fact is and has always been, those looking to blame video games want video games to be to blame. There's no studies, facts, or reality where video games cause more violence, just like love songs don't cause everyone to suddenly get along.

  • VP Joe Biden Believes There's 'No Legal Reason' The Government Can't Slap A Sin Tax On 'Violent Media'

As long at the Bible is considered violent media.

  • NYPD Sergeant Says 'Guilty Until Proven Innocent' Is Just The Price We Pay For A 'Free Society'

Forget the loss of freedom and liberty, this approach is impractical. This is lazy police work. It's essentially saying we'll just wait to see who doesn't prove themselves innocent, then arrest them.

In reality, this approach will make looking for a needle in a haystack, more like looking at a pile of needles on top of what used to be a haystack.

It just creates more false leads, wastes more time, and reduces the possibility of actually stopping a terrorist attack.

You can't write a program to stop terror (yes, I've seen the TV show, it's not real). It takes actual work. It can't be handled by a simple policy, it's got to be handled by policing!

This is why we have "intelligence" services. They are supposed to put the pieces together, not wait for the pieces to assemble themselves into a nice, easy to read picture.

  • Politicians, Car Dealers Trying To Make It Illegal To Buy A Tesla In North Carolina

    LJW ( profile ), 13 May, 2013 @ 11:07am

    really?

Is this the biggest problem we have here in NC? I'm so glad we've solved all of our other problems. Exactly how many people will be buying Tesla's anyway? Not many. Who cares?

  • Alice In Chains: We Hate The Internet, Twitter & Dancing

    LJW ( profile ), 03 May, 2013 @ 01:14pm

It's disappointing to see a band full of people younger than myself acting like ignorant old men. Jerry, your record label has been ripping you off since the beginning. Maybe you should direct your anger at them.

How many times will it take for a band to attack it's own fans to learn it's not their fan's job to monetize their talent. Get off your lazy duffs and put some effort into it. You're in a band! If you want job security go work at Walmart, oh wait, that won't work either.

Get used to it losers. Develop a brain of your own instead of taking everything your record label says as fact. Instead
of just grabbing your next album, I'm going to have to give it some serious thought given your new anti-fan stance.

See how hard is it to make money without fans! :O

  • Indie Film Distributor Spends Half Her Profits Sending DMCA Takedowns, But Is It Worth It?

It sounds to me like she has a marketing problem. I run across brand new businesses and long existing businesses alike who don't know who their audience is.

Offering their own VOD service is a great step, but it has to be followed up with some targeted marketing. After all, if there is no market, then they have no business.

I'm sure they have a business. Markets change, the business has to change to find them. It's likely that fans of her work would market it themselves by sharing with their friends.

Google forgets whose "authorization" is required: mine! Adblock+ is acting in accordance with MY wishes. It runs on MY computer on MY browser. No advertiser has the "right" to force me to watch crap I don't want to see.

  • Obama Tasks CDC With Study Of Video Games And 'Violent Media'

    LJW ( profile ), 22 Jan, 2013 @ 04:36am

    Really?

Come on Obama! I thought you might not be the same knee-jerk reactionary that we always have. It's been studied. It's been debunked. Studying it again is NOT going to make a difference. At least just be straight up and say even though studies don't show a link, you just want it to be true anyway so you can make a dumb law to appease everyone's fears. I believe we already have game ratings, which most parents ignore anyway.

Sometimes s$#t happens. It's sad, but we'll never live in a perfectly safe world. Get some marbles and just tell it like it is.

  • Who Knew? Apparently Censoring Terrorists From Using Social Media Doesn't Suddenly Make Them Love Us

    LJW ( profile ), 14 Dec, 2012 @ 09:25am

    Really?

Maybe somebody needs to study supply and demand a little more. When you reduce the supply and the demand remains, that creates even more demand! Ever heard of a black market?

I also agree, is this really our biggest problem right now?
    Sure seems like it's not.
