    This attidude explains the Deftones' staying power

    This attitude toward their fans and their craft shows why the Deftones have been rocking year-in, year-out for almost two decades. At each show I've been to, they have put up a performance that does not disappoint. While many of the warm-up bands they've toured with have risen and disappeared, the Deftones are still around.

    Case in point: I saw the Deftones touring with Thrice and Thursday back in '03 or '04. This was at the height of Thursday's popularity - does anybody think of them now? One or more of the members of Thursday were ill, so they didn't perform. The Deftones took up the slack and played a double set. They were up there for an hour and a half, playing their hearts out. I was exhausted by the end, and humbled to think that these guys do this nearly each night for months at a stretch.

    It is obvious that these guys are in it for the right reasons. Much respect for them.

    Rest in peace, Chi. We miss you.

    Just look at these figures http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Box_office_records and explain to me why we're even having this conversation.

    You have to go down to #20 before you hit an all-time-highest-grossing movie that was released pre-1994. It is far more logical to draw the conclusion that the internet is driving box office profits rather than causing people to pirate.

    I really fail to see why Hollywood and the recording industry are taken seriously when they whine about all of the people who are staying home. Even at $11 per ticket they can still get folks to turn out.

    I just dislike Hollywood's unnovative content. And the mainstream record labels couldn't innovate their way off of an escalator.

    Maybe I sound like some kind of hipster snob when I say this, but I don't see any downside to your contention if it means that Hollywood and the Mainstream Recording industry are disincentivized into bankruptcy.

    I'm confident some creative, innovative upstart will be happy to step up and fill the role.

    Since when are electrical impulses on a wire your exclusive property? Can I claim that you're breathing *my* exclusive air and demand royalties?

    Stop conflating tangible property with information. They aren't the same in any practical sense, neither should they be in any legal sense.

    I'm employed, and I'm a cord-cutter

    We cut the cord over a year ago. It was the best thing I ever did for my family.

    I've been continuously employed throughout the recession, I have a college degree, and I can afford to pay all of my bills.

    I'm not a deadbeat subscriber, I just have better things to do with my time.
