I don't vote often, and this is why. It doesn't matter who I vote for, *every single one of them* is on board with this stuff.
I can vote out my Senator, but whoever comes in after her will be just as bad. Money and power corrupt. It doesn't matter how good a person I think someone is, they will not stay that person after being sent in to the Congress machine.
I can't abide paying for Hulu. If I'm paying, I shouldn't have to watch ads.
Also, I really hate how nearly every show on Hulu has some different "window" of watching. If I'm paying, don't ever show me "clips," only full episodes. If I'm paying, *always* show me back seasons as well as all the episodes from this season.
The one month I tried it, I got extremely annoyed with "you can only watch the revolving last x episodes of show y, but you can watch ALL of show z."
Instead, we have the non-pay Hulu streaming through XBMC with the ads stripped out. Best Daily Show/Colbert experience ever.
If it became "Hulu for TV, Netflix for movies, no ads on either" each at ~$10/mo with no blackout of TV content (old episodes, all current season) I'd subscribe to both and never look back.
If you think that's something, try looking at airline prices from PC and then from a Mac. Do it again from Chrome and then IE and see what your price differences are.
Spoiler: The flight search makes presumptions based on your platform and browser as to what prices it should present you. Mac users pay more, for instance.
If I buy one, it won't be for the games. I'm waiting to see if it makes a better "media center" than Xbox (won't pay for Gold), AppleTV (have to jailbreak to really stream from our giant hard drives) or any of the other options short of buying a full computer.
I'm keeping an eye on it, and on the possible SteamBox.
If I wanted to be a professional filmmaker, then yes, I would have researched who owned (or potentially owned) any materials I wanted to use in my film.
There *is* always some form of bullshit, I agree. But to not realize that you might have to license stuff to include it in your film is just lazy.
I'll bet they had potential music licensing fees built in to their plan, why would photos or film clips be any different?
Not to be a killjoy on the whole "copyright is evil and stupid sometimes," but why didn't the filmmakers budget for this cost in the first place?
I'll admit, I sort of like these projects for lampshading just how much wasted money is going to the "copyright holder" for NO REASON.
However, I don't want this to become A Thing, where people can hold a finished project hostage so the rest of us can make up for their poor planning and budgetary shortfalls.
If you want to be a filmmaker, you need to better plan your projects so these costs don't blindside you.
Sometimes projects fail. It's a fact of life. If this wasn't Arrested Development, these guys would just be out of luck, and "try again next time," with subject matter you can afford.
