For accuracy, why don't you guys rename this site "CopyrightDirt" or "IPDirt". I was hoping there would really be some technology related content posted from time to time, but alas that does not seem to happen. Just because it's about music that may have a digital version doesn't mean that should be the focus of a site called TechDirt. Just my opinion, so if you want to flame me, stifle it.

If there turns out to be some actual tech-related things posted I'll be happy. Otherwise I'll just delete this shortcut and move on. I'm hoping to see some good techstuff soon.

Well, if they had named their band something more original than "Bandana" they may have ranked better for searches related to their band. That's like naming a band "Jeans" or "Hat" and being upset when something pops up that doesn't relate to the band.

People seriously need to get a grip.

Not at all. I said I liked it. Me. Myself. Not Irene, just me.

Fortunately for Apple, there are enough people that also like it as I do that they now have the hottest smartphone on the market.

Re: The iPhone is very secure...

    Oh. My. God.

You bash something for having a security flaw and then say you are aligned with the one piece of software with the most security flaws in it?

Ya, I wanna listen to your opinion.

  • Jul 31st, 2009 @ 11:32am

Re: Now I feel I should clarify my opinions.

Then YOU don't buy them. Calling me an idiot because I don't agree makes you the idiot. I bought mine and will buy more because I like it.

No more is required. I like the damn thing! I paid MY money and bought MY device that I LIKE. Fuck you for calling me names because I have another preference.

If you don't like it, then buy something else - and I won't call you a name for liking something other than what I like.

    Narrow minded prick.

Another thing that frequently gets overlooked by all of the fanboys on both sides: I freakin like it!

Maybe your phone does something a little more effeciently than mine. Maybe yours has a few ergs more speed. Maybe mine has more apps. And I like it.

Maybe I pay my money for what trips MY trigger. I like it enough that out of all the devices out there, I LIKE IT BEST. That's the final decision right there. Your Porche might be faster than my HHR, but what if I just really love the HHR? Or, what if the F-150 is what gets me wet? I can't outrun your car, but I could carry it up the hill. And I like it.

In most of the countries of the world people are allowed to purchase the device that they prefer. Even in Communist China the people can purchase whatever device their hearts desire so long as it is in their market. Because they like it.

Sorry for the rant, I just get so tired of all the people that bash me for liking something as if my not agreeing with their tastes makes me dumb or something.

    Because I like it!

Dumber and Dumberer. The courts need to see what a farce they are with rulings like this. Sheer idiocy brought on by places that are bought and paid for by either the recording or movie industry.

How long until people come to their senses and begin the boycott? Hitting their pocketbooks is the only way they will ever see.

    Re:

How will that be enforced? That is the question. If there are no assets in the Netherlands, how to they think they will enforce this decision? That's as if they ruled that I had to pay. I'd cheerfully flip them the bird and laugh as I walked off to ignore them.

    Re:

I say this because with google voice you can make any call that you make an incoming call.

Umm, what? Even if this was an actual sentence, there would still be no logic here. What does free incoming calls (or the lack of) have to do with Google Voice not being allowed on the iPhone?

    Re: Re:

If you have not bought an iPhone, then why are you whining? I have an iPhone, as do many of my friends. Know how many of us are going to get rid of our iPhones because of this? NONE. Know how many of us will get the next iPhone? ALL of us.

Know why we love it so much? Because things are controlled at Apple and what they release just works. All the way back to the Mac Color Classic I have over in the corner that still works and we still play games on that have worked for over 20 years.

Call me a fanboy if you want - I am a fan. I will continue to be a fan so long as they keep producing things that beat Microsoft with an ugly stick as they have been. I also will keep buying Apple products and using them very happily. 2 iPods and an iPhone in my household? Damn straight. Know how many Zunes or Palms? None. Not a damn one. No problems, either.

So yes, blame Apple for not allowing an app that would overload the cellular network of the carrier and make nincompoops whine that they need a better network. Whine because you don't have a phone that does everything and costs nothing. Whine more. Come on, whine!

    BOOOOOOOOOHOOOOooooooooooooooo...............

    Re: Re: What next...

Going 15 MPH under the limit is a hazard to other drivers. Regardless of "should be" or "well they ought to" this is reality. People drive at or just over the speed limit and people that drive under it cause accidents because the morons that speed also don't pay attention. Yes, they "should be" going slower and "ought to" pay attention and slow down - but they don't. And they won't. So going slow is a hazard.

    Re: Huh?

I applaud them for publishing the well written (by 15 year old standards) of an intern about the things he knows well - his and his friend's habits. It's an article written by a kid about kids. If you're expecting top-notch research and perfect logic flow, then you expect a bit much from a lad. If you look at this as it is from a teen's point of view, then he's a lucky little SOB for not only getting published but also for grabbing international attention from it.

Stop overanalyzing and just accept that Morgan Stanley was trying to encourage the youth that is the next generation to develop some skills and this was an excellent start for him.

  • Jul 14th, 2009 @ 6:05am

    Re: what the hell

Other than WoW, most of the teens I know from my kids and their friends to my friend's kids all play console games. Most of them also play WoW, but that's about all on the computer. Everything else they do is on consoles, so this is on par with my social circle as well.

  • Jul 14th, 2009 @ 6:03am

Re: I still wonder what morgan stanley was smoking

Actually, it sounds exactly like a 15 year old that is lucky enough to be able to do an internship at a place like Morgan Stanley. Clearly there is no fact checking lacking and it was an interesting read.

Should we allow people to murder...a cut of it back?

I know this wasn't intentional, but I thought it was an interesting choice of words. : )

Re: Actually... not a bad idea.

That would be the silver lining, but this is definitely still the cloud. Tromping more and more on the rights and liberties of citizens must stop. Let us not forget that this is how the Civil War began. Not from copyright zealots, but from normal people getting fed up with how the leadership of their home area were out for naught but themselves and their liberties and freedoms were slowly eaten away. I have friends that I admit are extremists, but they are already predicting CW2. I don't think we need to add fuel to the fire.

I like how Bill Amend does it in his comic strip Foxtrot. He reverses letters in the name. He'll say Toridos for chips, and Verlon for makeup, an iFruit for iMac and things like that. Perhaps the TV industry needs to follow suit and make up a ton of fake logos and companies for all of the series to draw from. I'd bet after a few months of doing that, Google statistics would see those terms searched for quite a bit - showing that the real companies are losing that much revenue from the exposure loss.
