I can understand where the police are coming from, but the thought of the police putting GPS devices on any car they want does not seem like a good outcome. If a warrant was not required, what would stop the police from putting GPS devices on every car? Requiring a warrant will prevent abuse and make sure that GPS tracking is only used when they have good reason to follow someone.
I imagine that this will become a bigger issue as other states start to do similar things, so I expect this to come up again.
The service that I use, Last.fm is available in the USA despite being based in the UK. I've used both last.fm and Pandora, and I like last.fm better. Its unfortunate to see the RIAA kill off great services, but I don't expect them to stop anytime soon.
For the general public, heart rate monitors will not be taken with any amount of enthusiasm. The only place where constant monitoring is useful in daily activities are law enforcement and military, which has been using vitals monitors in certain applications for some time now.
I loved The Dig as well, definitely one of the best games I played. The game also came with a book that followed a very similar storyline as the game (didn't reveal any solutions to the puzzles, heh). I was probably one of the few people that actually read the novel along with the game...
The Ubuntu and Kubuntu flavors of linux are MUCH easier to install than Windows. They are not quite as easy as Windows in certain aspects of day to day use, but installation of the OS itself is far easier.
My reason for using dialup at home is because its the only option available thats afforadable. Cable and DSL are not available (I live in a rather rural area), and satellite is simply too expensive. When I need a high speed connection, I do it from work on my laptop (we're allowed to use their internet for personal use after work if its on our own computers).
$700 for a job listing? That seems rediciously high compared to the cost of my local newspaper.
Perhaps what the newspapers should do is allow for more of their content to be put on their website. Charge a fee similar to Craigslist for an "online only" job ad, and have the regular job listing placed in both the paper and the online listing. Or provide an incentive to do both the paper and the online listing. I'm sure that the newspapers could come up with a system that allows them to retain the traditional newspaper job listings while forming a market online as well.
