I never said these Acro-Unions are in violation of the 1st Amendment, they just hate the concept of free speech so much so they will sue at the drop of a hat to prevent the truth from being spoken. They use heavy handed tactics that knock their members into line and fine, penalize, threaten and fire those that don’t play by their rules.
This destroys the freedom to converse with liberty, which has nothing to do with the law.
“If he's going to say something dumb, isn't that his decision?”
Not if he is a member of a professional union. The AMA, PGA, NAR, RIAA, etc., are killers of free speech, distorters of truth and will destroy all of our rights to get their way.
These Acro-Unions choose what their members can and cannot say, to hell with the 1st Amendment. Free speech is penalized and any comments they deem derogatory will be dealt with harshly.
I'm going to give my Thanksgiving early. I am truly grateful that TechDirt and the EFF are out there to stop those that would try to steal a part of my children’s future.
The powers that be put cameras in AZ some years back to raise revenue. My parents, who live there, are always talking about the issue and now it looks like they are going to have a chance to vote on the camera’s future.
There is currently a signature drive to place the initiative on the Nov 2010 ballot to remove all cameras. I see a landslide coming. http://camerafraud.wordpress.com/initiative/
People really hate these cameras, there was even a police officer shot by a disturbed citizen while sitting in his car at the site of a portable camera location.
I attended the original Wall concert back in 1990 and the crowd was very tame. I had a ticket and was within 75 yds of the front of the stage and there was no rushing and pushing like I’ve experience at concerts in the US. Granted, the crowd without tickets gathered outside the fence eventually pushed the fence down, but there was still no pushing and they just queued up straight back from the stage. It was estimated there were 500,000 people there. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bundesarchiv_Bild_183-1990-0722-402,_Berlin,_Auff%C3%BChrung_der _Rockoper_%22The_Wall%22.jpg
Now, trying to get food at the Zoo station McDonald’s after the concert was quite a different story…
They might be adapting the same business model as the owner of Marker USA, the ski binding company. He was sued all the time starting in the 70’s, but he was in constant bankruptcy and his wife held all the assets in the company. Not sure if this is still their setup, but it worked for Marker to get established as a big player.
This guy better not draw too much attention to his flaming bowls, the Olympic Committee might decide it’s too similar to their symbol and come after him.
The overall public interest is at stake if those that hold the purse strings get to decide how to fund the 4th estate. Let’s just cut out the middle man and let the lobbyists run the paper.
How is a free democracy supposed to survive on this nonsense, the Washington Post should move to Canada if they have that attitude.
This is moronic at best and Orwellian at worst. News organizations across the board will have to shut down their comment sections. Factions from the left and right will constantly be sabotaging the sites they disagree with by posting misinformation regarding that public company’s stock.
Why should soda pop and music have special taxes? Yea, I know, booze and smokes do so its got to be the way, right? Creating a tax for what personally ails you is the mark of an unskilled mind.
“…to petition the Government for a redress of grievances” would take on a whole new meaning. Companies would lobby congress to suppress stories related to their company. Can you imagine the increase in lobbying this would bring.
Congressional representatives would hold the power of the purse over news organizations which is a built in “check” mechanism for congress to hold those receiving funds accountable. Checkmate.
Why do they think a book is worth $25? Is there some “invisible hand”, palm up, demanding that price point? Could be a story adapted to fit their illusion or a fully integrated Trust that needs to be examined.
Any way you look at it, they are mimicking the others who think their content is worth a price not supported by basic economics. EX: Real estate “market” - Something is only worth what the buyer is willing to pay.

That is my point, if the WP likes a government nanny taking care of it, Canada is a perfect place for them.

I know that, but the Olympic committee does not and has a history of "protecting" what it believes to be Olympic symbols.

You can always send a FOIA request to the government agency that is handling the private company.
