Come on, guys, get your story straight! Which is it?
It's whichever will make them the most $$$ - they'll change it as necessary. Facts aren't important.
I hate Wal-Mart with a passion - so it's Amazon, Barnes and Noble or another bookseller for me - but most of the books I read - I get from the library.
I'm surprised they aren't bitching more about libraries yet.
I think what is often ignored (not on TechDirt, of course) is that it's probably the *very existence* of the Internet and file sharing that is responsible for their huge successes of late.
Yep, like Radio - which is 'free' music broadcast did more to pump up music sales than *anything* else in history..
Bad move. Never resign on the spot. Get a lawyer. Everything changes when you let a lawyer do your talking! Especially when dealing with self-righteous blowhards.
Ehhh, depends...
I bet they didn't even want him to resign - he may have done it out of spite.
I'm saying that - because I did that. My wife and I were both working a lot - had a good savings built up and the job market was good. I was being 'threatened' to get wrote up for something I didn't do - and even other co-workers agreed it was clear it wasn't my fault.
So I cam in that night, when I had to go to the office I told the boss I guess he was working second shift tonight too and walked out the door.
Just depends on your situation :) Sometimes that can sting more that fighting anything, lol
If they had a clue of how many 'cracked' games in years past I had gotten - and then turned around and bought, they'd realize it's quite the opposite.
Now I just play 'official' trials - or don't get the game. With a few exceptions - well, only one I can think of in recent years I bought without a trial was Fallout 3.
Most games I play now are online with a monthly fee anyway.
it isn't like Google is pointing to 92,900 seperate torrents. Your example certainly gollifies the numbers, but the underside is the same (and so is the source of the files).
So what if it was only pointing to 210 results as well? Wouldn't it then be equally as liable?
Then we go on to the ISP's liability in this - then behind the ISP we have the Telco - behind the Telco we have Government rules and regulations that give these ISP's and Telecom companies the 'license' to operate. Shouldn't they all be equally liable?
What about other search Engines? Bing, Yahoo, etc?
And actually the first hit using Google to search for the string ""transformers 2" filetype:torrent" was on Isohunt.com
Actually - the Pirate Bay doesn't show on the first Google page results at all.
Not to mention a lot of IP & MAC spoofing and hacking anyone still using WEP (i.e. a lot of average people) - the "pirates" download as much as they like, safe in the knowledge that some innocent neighbour gets the heat if they're ever caught. Spiffy.
Yep - just more reasons to infect other computers for use as proxies.
I suspect - most politicians don't even have a clue that can be done.
The piracy (most common) mod invovles reflashing the firmware on the dvd drive, and ONLY allows playing signed MS games, just from DVD+R's instead of DVD-ROM's.
And that may well not even be 'piracy' - you should be allowed to make a copy of the original and play the copy to keep the original in good condition - that too increases the 'value' of a system.
A lot of those reasons - are the reason I'm still a PC gamer and not back onto consoles. I gave up consoles when I got my first PC and don't plan on going back.
I really want to be good and not pirate so I have been buying my PC games off of Steam. I bought Risen and the DRM wouldn't let me play it. I had to make a copy of my friends pirated copy and use that one. The I bought Dragon Age and Steam wouldn't let me play after I had my PC off the internet for 3 days. I'm not even really against DRM because it is still easy to pirate games but I think because of these annoyances I won't be using Steam anymore.
heh, yeah - I'll buy my games no matter what - if I play it, I buy it, but yes - I run some 'altered' copies instead of originals too - I hate having to use the CD's - such a hassle. I hate having to be online - unless I have a reason to be online, I disable my Ethernet (simple right click) - when playing single player games etc - it's one security hole that's not needed... if I don't need it.

You know - "Bing" in Chinese means 'Disease' :)

Do it cable industry.. and you'll get the DVR right back.
Don't tempt me to ditch cable and sign up for NetFlix. I think about that enough already.

When probably 80%+ of the copies of Windows are not legit in China anyway - will it matter?

Google violates copyright law by caching the websites it indexes.
In that case...
All browsers also violate copyright law, as would DNS servers that cache any domain name that's 'copyrighted'.
Fox News... and other News Corp computers - no doubt have browsers and I'm sure News Corp has DNS servers.
Therefore: they are also violating copyright law.

and also on the search "transformers 2 torrent" Just like that in Google - again, the first page does not include hits from The Pirate Bay.

Technology is so scary sometimes... ;)
But really, it's like a milk company in 1920 *insisting* that the only way they will deliver milk is using a horse and buggy.
Do you think consumers will care or call another company that uses a truck to deliver it?
Do I care if Murdoch gets every single bit of his corporation's 'news' off the web? No - I do not.

Don't let partisanship confuse you here... hehe
I'm sure - this is only ONE of many such 'requests'. By the Bush administration, the Obama administration, etc, etc, etc.
Our one-party system just does so much it's hard to hide now.
Oh wait - was it supposed to be 'two-parties' like Network News tells us? lol, not.
