not on mac though...
well.. gmail is nice and all, but it doesn't work on my mac since it uses activeX or something... argh.
I got one...
... and it seems pretty good. I can only see the search aspect becoming useful after it's been used for several months, and you need to find an old username/password emailed to you. It has a nice interface though.
Out of curiousity...
...how many of those that have voted "Just Another Web Based Email Client" have even tried the service? I have been using it far at least a month now, and am now using it as my primary account.
Re: Out of curiousity...
I use it. It's nice, has some kinks, but ok.

Gmail is a great email client. But best ever was going just a little to far. I think if there would have been a choice between "The best" and "another" it would have got more votes. Such are polls. GMAIL is great though!!
gmail
google groups has a board called gmail invites--snag up a link and try it ...;0)
No email is private. I like gmail so far-- I've had 30 email accounts....gmail is the best so far.
Re: not on mac though...
I didn't think it used ActiveX, just AJAX. It works on my PC with Firefox. Maybe you should try a different browser.
Excellent
I love Gmail. It's quickly accessed from my personalized homepage, updates automatically, and I just love the design overall. The only thing I don't like is the no-folders option, but I got used to it after awhile. As for it not working on a mac, how old is your mac? It runs flawlessly on Safari for me. If not, however, you should try Firefox.
Enjoy,
Synktar
Gmail works on a MAC... My girlfriend has a Mac using Safari and IE and I have no trouble using either.
GMAIL no folders
I like the service it's GREAT! But here is my vote for folders! Labels are OK too but I would like to "hide" stuff in folders.
