I ahte demographics!
If giving demographic information is asked for as a condition of using a news site, or any other site for that matter, it's rare that I give out correct information. Most sites think I'm an 80 year old female school teacher from seattle with a no education and a household income greater than $100,000 a year. There are better ways to get this sort of information from people. I feel justified in messing up their statistics. They deserve what they get if they are going to use those kinds of means to gather demographic information. And if enough people respond this way, then thier database becomes useless. Heh Heh. Bastards...

Maybe that's what the % error is for..those who will just make up crappy answers. I hardly ever give out real demographic info, because most of the time, I shouldn't have to.

Sometimes I provide anti-demographic responses - changing age, income, interests, whatever... dunno why, but so far I have not been busted for lying to a computer (now, if it is a Federal computer, they may be on their way).

Another option
I usually leave a site if I have to answer questions, because
-- it's usually hard to predict how much time they'll demand
-- I don't want to remember another password to avoid typing it again
-- I work on multiple computers and browsers so cookies don't always take
If the article looks like a good one, though, then I'll sometimes try high-frequency combos like "cypherpunk/password" or "anonymous/anonymous" and such, to see if someone else has already set up such a name.
