I have the worst of both worlds... I work w/ an incompetent jerk!!!
No, seriously, he's not very good at what he does (I constantly have to go behind him and fix his stuff), plus he's one of the most arrogant people I've ever met. no one here likes him, and since he's my counterpart, everyone comes to me w/ questions/problems and I have to pass stuff on to him... ARGGHHHH!!!

I recall that there was a large study about this not too long ago that had basically the same results as this poll.
Essentially, most people would rather work with a nice guy than a jerk; regardless of their skill levels. This is what I have to tell many of my tech/IT-working friends. It's the social skills, stupid!

It's a lot easier for someone to become skilled than change their personality. ;-)

I worked in a 9-1-1 facility, an environment requiring highly skilled, intelligent people, regardless of personality or education, and believe me, after awhile the jerks got the message to change or they'd be on their own during the next manure hurricane. (well, enough to be a lesson, but not so much as to affect safety, obviously.)
