  Though I see your point - that's an issue between the end user and their ISP, not me and my hosting provider.
  
  I see it as a hassle, but see the good of it. Plus the cost is not that much, and will become cheaper over time.
  
  I also see the point of why should my personal site visited by few people need it. I'm mainly worried about how this affects the content I link to (primarily photos on flickr), but that's an issue I'll have to investigate.
  
  Or not, my site isn't there for traffic anyway. I mainly worry that if I don't, and google puts a warning on the site, then I'm going to get emails from my mother asking why my site isn't safe.

  My high school computer science teacher was drafted from the typing and home ec classes. She was fascinated by what we were able to show her how to do on the computers, not so much when the school got a bill for long distance calls to connect to a bbs ;)
  They did lock down the phone lines after that, but I don't remember anyone getting punished. Hard to when she had to give us her code to use the phone to dial out.

  I'm in the same boat, though I've heard of the band I don't know the music. The lyrics are compelling enough in this context to make me curious to hear the music as well, but....not in this case.

  I actually thought until recently that public speeches were...public and not under copyright. I'm still trying to wrap my head around this, but it's akin to wrapping it around a telephone pole.

  No - I really do get that it sucks being out the money while the refund is processed. But I don't see why he was so angry about it - if the groupon (none of the links I saw actually showed a copy of the original groupon page) said it was for one procedure, and he goes in for a consult that I assume was free (I see the consults advertised for free so I assume this would have been free with or without the groupon) and his eyes weren't compatible with the procedure he had pre-paid for, then what did he expect them to do?
  He does say he got the refund because he was in the 7 day window groupon offers for refunds, but there isn't anything to indicate that the eye place wouldn't have given it to him also.
  I'm not commenting on the defamation part of the story because I think he should be able to say whatever he wants, I'm just not seeing his anger at the shop as being entirely reasonable.

  I read thru the yelp post and it seems he did get his money back - if so what was his problem with it? If he goes to another clinic for a consult and they agree that the procedure he had bought wasn't correct for his eye - shouldn't he be happy they didn't do it?

  I think we have different definitions of what "cartoonishly defending" means. I'm not even sure we could agree on the definition of "defending".

  So by tweaking the variables you can upload larger the 2M files? If not then it is useless for me, would want to use it for a backup system.
  
  But this is really a project for a few months down the road anyway.

  I was actually wondering why owncloud wasn't mentioned. One of the reasons I've been looking at it, is that it can run on a Raspberry Pi. This looks interesting to me b/c I can convince a couple of different friends to take it home and plug it in, then I have secure (hopefully) cloud storage synced across several locations for the cost of the hdd and the raspberry pi. I'm not sure how well this works though, and how much administration would be needed.
  There are also various hosting firms that will run an owncloud server for you - but at a cost ofcourse.
  It doesn't settle the issue of email - but I think smtp needs a redesign before email can be secure unless you add hurdles to both the sender and receiver.

  I'm late to this conversation but I was mentioning this to a German friend and he mentioned that because of criticism of the plan they will not be instituting it until 2016 (and who knows what will change by then).

  Simply because the content providers get no additional money from radio shack when I buy an antenna from them and put it on top of my set.
  Would it be different if I rented the antenna from radio shack?
  My apartment owner doesn't pay the content providers for renting me the apartment where I put the antenna. Why should this company have to pay them for renting me space in their warehouse?
