Exactly that, a government that no longer cares for, nor represents it's people.
They try to paint the picture as though it's "US" (republicans or democrats) vs. "THEM" (the party not chosen before) and some people will try to say that it's a RICH vs. POOR issue, and while they're not too far off, it's a RULER vs. PEASANT issue here, and if you're not in the government, then you're a peasant (and even some people who are in the government are considered peasants)... They don't think they need to tell us the truth or answer to the laws that they make in our name. Unless and until we get every incumbent out and elect PEASANTS willing to do the work to right the ship, then we deserve all the fists the government tries to shove up our ass...
This is really making me angry again at my parents generation for not impeaching and prosecuting to the full extent of the law that asshole Nixon for breaking the law while in office because "When the president of the united states does it, it's not illegal!"
FUCK THAT! It should be twice as illegal for a person of such power to break the law, and should be punished by a factor of 10 for the disgusting impact on the whole world. Bush, Obama, shit, maybe even Clinton, and almost certainly, unless they put an immediate end to these illegal programs upon taking office, even the next president should be put on trial, and sent to federal "pound-me-in-the-ass" prison.
It seems almost like the Government is thinking 'they' ARE the nation, and their security is at risk when the public is educated with facts instead of propaganda.
While you, like myself, seem to believe that the people are the nation and we need the facts about what our 'representatives' are doing, supposedly in our name (and as I'm sure some of the rest of the world sees it, with our permission...), in order to ensure our security.
There are far more of us (citizens) than there are of them (gov't officials) so we need to make the change. We damn sure better get out for the next election and VOTE OUT EVERY SINGLE INCUMBENT! If they're really good, we can put them back in after we've set term limits, campaign finance reform, and government benefit/compensation reform (they shouldn't get to vote their own raises and benefits with our money....that should be our vote), but we need a clean slate, and we need people willing to actually work for the job, not old, arrogant bastards who've been there so long they have no fear of losing their seats or their lobbyist sponsors by sitting on their thumbs for a few weeks while millions of us WISH WE HAD WORK TO GO TO!
I say next time we don't just rock the vote....Let's tip the damn vote over!
I think you should look up what generalize actually means in the dictionary, because what you describe about a bus and a motor scooter is not a generalization... It's not at all a generalization to say that busses stop slower than motor scooters, that's a fact.
On rainy days, it always rains, that's not a generalization, that's a fact. If it wasn't raining, it wouldn't be a rainy day.
I don't think you have as solid a grasp on these concepts as you think you do, and I'll thank you to take your American-Style over-inflated ego and the arrogance that comes with it over to the saloon, with the cowboys you claim to hate but act just like. I do not need education offers from someone so willing to display their own lack of it.
It's not like those things at all... Valid comparisons would be trying to say that every African has AIDS, or that every American is a Wall Street pillager, but those do not work as generalizations because the percentages are so small... AIDS and other pillagers are problems no matter their size, but that's not at all what I'm discussing.
What you're doing is twisting my words to make it look like I think troubled kids are not a problem that we should deal with, but that's not what I said, nor what I think. There was a school shooting in a different country the other day, but surely you're not ready to say that everyone in that country is a gun-toting, bullet happy, cowboy, are you?
Re: Re: Re: If you're going to be consistent, start calling Google a SPY AGENCY.
I know full well how the modern web works, and unless you take action to prevent cookies and those other beacons you speak of, then yes they broadcast or what have you and take note of limited information unless you are signed in and agreed to it. The thing is, unless you have a static IP or something like that to where your electronic signature is always the same, then they only collect enough info to follow you around for a session, and only on such pages. Honestly though, I assume people in general (at least those on this site) are aware now of how much data CAN flow through such sites, and that they understand about browser add-ons to block them if that's their desire. But, my point is still valid that Google does not try to hide or lie about what they do...(unless commanded to do so by the feds I guess..)
Generalizing is how the weak minded and insecure survive.
Nigerians are people, and just like in EVERY other country, some scam and some don't. But just like in every other country, the exported news is selective so you don't hear about all the great things people do in Nigeria, just about the scams.
Generalizing is how you become a bigot.
also, comparing rainy days to people is absolutely ridiculous. The only valid comparison to in generally rains on rainy days is that people generally breathe when they are alive. You see, you have to find something common among ALL of them, and breathing plus a heartbeat is about all there is that matches that criteria. Please, take your prejudice elsewhere, because we're trying to clean that up and having to shovel your shit as well isn't going to help us any.
I think we're very much waking up to that, and we realize it isn't pretty, but hey, if you want to be honest, let's be totally honest: The rest of the world should realize, especially with all these leaked revelations, that the American government has not been acting with the approval or in the best interests of the American people for quite some time. That cowboy image applies well to our government...but our people deal with problems of their own just like people in every other country. Troubled kids shooting up schools is not a good example to generalize into "Americans," considering what a ridiculously small percentage it is. It's like generalizing all Muslims as terrorists, and we should all know by now that's not true, not appropriate to insinuate, and insulting to millions of people who do not deserve it.
Re: If you're going to be consistent, start calling Google a SPY AGENCY.
They scour the web for any PUBLICLY AVAILABLE data, so that's not spying at all. They go through your data only if you store your data with them, in which case that "accept" you clicked on gave them your permission, and that's not spying at all.
One HUGE difference is, Google doesn't try to hide what they do, nor do they lie about it.
If he wasn't a liar, he wouldn't be called one, ever. Not being able to give answers because the answer is classified above Top Secret is not a valid excuse to LIE. There's at least half a dozen respectable and ethical ways to handle that situation, that don't involve lying.
He's not saying it's legal, he's trying to say that when HE does it it's not ILLEGAL!
That sounds vaguely familiar for some reason...
maybe if the previous person who stated that same sort of justification for crimes had been truly punished, people wouldn't still think the American public is essentially a battered wife who simply needs to hear "I'm sorry, it won't happen again." to go on about business as usual...
Perhaps you're right...I know I didn't end up voting for that guy.. But there is something to be said of the 'divide and conquer' approach. And a step to put all the corruption on the states and out of the federal government could, and likely would, make it easier for those states filled with reasonable citizens to handle and clean up. It would also make it easier for the world to laugh at any states still so caught up in themselves to allow this corruption.
also, the left-winger we elected hasn't done anything to rid ourselves of the real issue, so stop looking at the problem like it's an "us vs. them" thing. Someone, somewhere is going to have to fix this problem, and the chances are that he's going to come from either the left or the right wing to some extent.
Ignatius also points out that the solution is not to close down, but to open up. By reducing drastically the number of things that are deemed secret in the first place, it would be possible to concentrate on protecting just those that really matter:
I think since they're so keen to keep everything they have a secret, it's likely that everything that wouldn't get them in trouble is already out there. If they're afraid of 4000 employees, it's likely that letting any of the 'secret' information out would cause problems.
It's what the public wants, and what the world really needs, but it's not what those in power want...because it means less power.
Stop pretending there isn't a third choice you immensely ignorant FOOL!!!!
That's at least 75% of the problem right now, and why we don't vote these idiots out of office. Because people like you still think there's only an "us or them" choice to make. Our 'two party system' hasn't really worked for us since Kennedy was shot, or even before that. But we still forget that WE CAST THE VOTES! WE IMPACT POLICY! All to the extent that we take action to do so.
When idiots like you stop thinking the choice is between bad and worse and there's nothing we can do about it, and start looking for GOOD CANDIDATES outside the giftboxes that, let's face it, the huge corporations that are the DNC and RNC place neatly in the middle of your favorite TV show with messages that have been field tested to make you like them...Maybe, just maybe then we'll get some meaningful change. But honestly, for the sake humanity, progress, and all things good, if you just want to spout off about how you're too weak and ignorant to make an effort at improving the world, just keep it to yourself. Because those of us that do want things to get better don't need you gunking up the gears of change.
