  • What Corruption Looks Like: FCC Commissioner Takes Job At Comcast Months After She Voted To Approve Its Deal With NBC Universal

    farooge ( profile ), 12 May, 2011 @ 10:25am

    Sickening

She should be in jail for corruption, PERIOD (so should everyone else who does this)

Why doesn't the law say (basically) "If a moron in a hurry would consider it corruption it is [end of legal jargon]"

How does one go about starting to fix this crap? Who can I vote for who isn't looking forward to benefiting from the setup (and stands a snowballs chance in hell)?

damnit, this is getting really old (and quite demoralizing)

    god help us

    Disgusted American

I feel the need to ask this question once again:

My children are 6 and 2; why on earth should I teach them voting is important?

At this point they will be taught how to pay proper attention.

    Is this the world

... telling an industry to go to hell?

    >>"Total sales by debut artists in the global top 50 album chart in 2010 were just one quarter of the level they achieved in 2003"

    I think it is!

My children (are being/will be) taught trademark is a tolerable restriction on free speech and how to use a VPN until we fix things. Your free to try and change their minds.

    Someone explain

Why I should teach my kids to vote when it's just not true?

I think I may teach them to get rich and buy whatever laws & regulations they desire. I can show them lots of examples - left, right and center

    I'm not kidding folks.

    Wired is a confusing pub

At first I thought it was cool, I felt like I was missing something - so I subscribed (years ago).

Then it began to 'feel' different (I'm not sure how else to express the vibe) and I looked elsewhere (for many years)

More recently the "I'm missing something" vibe returned, so I added them to my RSS reader and I was seriously considering a print sub (not that I'd always read it .. just to support them) then the IPad app mania (seriously??) kinda cooled me a little - now this (I had the exact same impressions of their motives)

Forget it, they're as clueless as (insert old media company name here). I wonder if the "missing something" vibe was some sort of marketing ploy that they have down pat? (feeling gamed is icky)

Kinda like my XM sub. - they feel SOOO "old school" that it pains me to give them my money but I LOVE hockey, and they have a channel named "Home Ice" that is pretty awesome ... but do you really want me to (secretly, kinda) loathe you?

  • UK Court Finds That Simply Linking To Infringing Videos Is Not Infringing

    farooge ( profile ), 15 Feb, 2010 @ 10:10am

    It's not the entertainment industry

It's the BAR (or whatever that's called over there)

Why do we let these people regulate themselves?

These types of tactics (bankrupting - or at the very least, ongoing, systemic, harassment) have been admitted to in hushed tones for so long it's developed into a tornado. Add to that the shameful behavior on the criminal side of things when an election is near and you have a profession that is simply broken (as in - 'the sink goes too' broken).

We all already know it, now let's get to fixing it.

It is truly impressive - while also being a sad commentary on the 'news' industry.

  • Interview With William Patry: Understanding How The Copyright Debate Got Twisted

    farooge ( profile ), 25 Aug, 2009 @ 01:20pm

    I have not been convinced

    >"there are works though, especially those involving large investment, like motion pictures that do need the ability to secure financing through the asset of copyright and to go into court to stop massive unauthorized copying."

Explicit language limiting that protection to commercial use would probably interest me but I don't know if I could even go for that.

The system has been abused so badly for so long I don't know if it's continued existence can be justified in any form.

I'll put it like I would to my children:

"Prove your responsible enough and I'll consider it"

And don't forget past [bad] behavior needs to be punished as a deterrent to future [bad] behavior.

Which, I guess, necessitates at least a short (predefined) period without it, right?

And I really like the idea in the 8.3 post.

And ban those darn cell phones in cars too!

    >> "That seems to be the claim some administrators are making, saying that if it influences activities at the school, then the school can discipline the students."

Wouldn't tired students also (e?a?)ffect "activities at the school"

"Go home son - you are suspended for a week. This is the THIRD time I've demanded you get more sleep!"
