Well, following your formula, CNN is connecting with fans (allowing them to report for CNN) and giving them a reason to buy (the extra content on the app), and seems to be doing well from it.
Now that dosen't mean they can't also implement the "report for CNN" elsewhere, but at this time, the current strategy seems to be the winning one.
I guess they forgot how P2P is also used to download and share legitimate things, or how some music groups are using it to spread their newest works, etc.
I haven't looked into it much, but I assume they're offering a torrent as an option, not exclusively requiring users to run a torrent to get the files they need. I hope they don't start moving toward the latter.
Unfortunately, YouTube has been bending over for the record companies as of late. Countless videos have been "ruined" due to their background music being muted.
Doing this is shooting them in the foot, because it causes many people (like me) to explore other services that will meet the needs of the customer base.
Glad to hear Google is doing well, though. They're one of those "little big companies" that just works well.
I'm assuming that Psion's bringing all this attention to the name for publicity, even if it's not positive publicity... at least it gets it's name out there. That said, it's still unbelievably stupid.

The only one performing "unprofessional actions" is the organization conducting the investigation. This should not be necessary at all.

If the iPhone had a slide out QWERTY keyboard (a la HTC smartphones), I would own one. But not until that time.
