People like you are working for Big Content. Just because we happen to be real people who are innovating and happen to agree with the EFF's stance or just because Google also agrees doesn't make these "public interest groups" astroturfing. It means that the public is upset about the privileges that Big Content has enjoyed and abused for so long. The public isn't happy that copyright is around for 150 years after death. Big Content is. Sure you can find anecdotal evidence of a couple people that are happy with it, but the evidence points to the fact that society is fed up with it. Piracy is only a part of that evidence. The public outcries against SOPA only showed that Big Content had overextended itself too far. There is a lot of evidence to show that, well...you're just full of bullshit.
Cry more about spilled milk. Instead of worrying about the few dollars you're losing through piracy, why don't you worry about the customers you're turning away through your incessant stupidity? It's been shown time and time and time again (Google it. You're not worth my time to do so if you want citations) that piracy has little if ANY negative effect and more than likely has a strong positive effect that is difficult to measure. There's no reason to penalize us for your stupidity and laziness. That's what this boils down to.
3/10 for trolling. Points awarded for content...including some of the important trolling parts - ad hominem attacks, "freetards", and calling mike a pirate. 2 Points awarded for style - not actually addressing anything remotely related to the subject at hand.
Basically, what I was trying to convey was the fact that the writers can change the wording all they want, but DNS has nothing to do with blocking a website. The only way to block using DNS is to redirect. Since any redirection is indistinguishable from malicious redirection (think man-in-the-middle attacks trying to steal your bank information), there is no way to implement SOPA. Period. Changing the wording and calling it something else doesn't change the actual facts.
Yes, the language was modified. But the language was modified by people who don't have any clue what the difference is (or who don't care). Those of us who work with/understand the technical implementations of what the SOPA writers want are the ones screaming out that there is no difference between the two and that the difference in language is nothing more than a facade to pretend that there is no problem. Once again, left hand not talking to right hand or right hand ignoring left hand.
Well, we still are waiting for well-reasoned retorts to the arguments here. Perhaps if you took the time to eloquently speak your mind rather than resorting to these rants that you spend so much time on.
I must have missed the part where the bill already passed and is on it's way to the president's desk. Oh, it's not? Then this discussion is perfectly acceptable. If you don't like it, then leave. Go shill elsewhere.
I don't know who the heck you are, but I am familiar with the eejit. Whether I agree with all of his stances or not, he's not offensive. You are. Please leave or provide value to this conversation rather than trying to derail it with diatribes.
He didn't change the subject. He merely asked you to back up your statement. He was stating that you are no better than others who have posted here, completely misstating facts, if you can't do so. While he kinda jumped quickly to this conclusion, I can't blame him either. There has been a LOT of activity recently from Anonymous Cowards trying to spam these threads with propaganda and no citations to back up their statements. Put up or shut up is the community attitude right now. Links are important. We go through the work to cite sources by putting links in our comments. If you want us to give you the respect you want. You can do so too. Link us a source. Sometimes a reliable source takes a bit of time to find because they are behind paywalls etc. Linking a source that is NOT behind a paywall is very much appreciated.
