There are absolute standards that derive from the facts of existence, it's not all relative and up for grabs the way you commie-pirates want.

And there we go: up comes the word "commie." She thinks she's pushing back against the Iron Curtain to save us all from a Red Dawn. *Eyeroll*

Sticking to copyright: while Disney may have "stolen" from fairy tales (no one complained), the labor of thinking up, working out, and producing Mickey Mouse was nearly all due to Walt Disney (and his gang of slave-artists to draw the many images), so the resulting film is ALL his. -- And to ENJOY the product of his work, you only had to pay a nickel!

Actually, no. The trouble with copyright is that you don't own what you paid that nickel for. There are limits to what you can do with your DVD, etc. of Mickey Mouse, e.g. how many people you can show it to and where it can be shown, etc. So no, you don't "only" pay a nickel for the movie. You pay a nickel for a licence to watch the movie on the media authorised and specified by Disney.

If you don't want to pay, you don't have to, but you've then NO right to enjoy the content. THAT'S A MORAL DEAL, plain and simple. -- Of course Disney is bad example for later years, but was absolutely true up to 28 years from creation date.

You're contradicting yourself. Long copyright terms either are moral or they're not. Make your mind up.

And no, I'm not going to shut up. But you just keep pushing your immorality of taking what you haven't created, because that too serves MY purposes!

Making a huge fool of yourself on Techdirt by demonstrating unrequited passion for Mike and an unreasonable fear of imaginary communists. It's funny if we're in the right mood but most of the time it's annoying.

no masnnick we are not pretending you said stuff you didn't, we are SAYING you DIDN'T SAY STUFF YOU SHOULD OF.

Why, because it's Kim... it appears.

as for you disagreeing with Kim fatman, sure you did.

what it is Masnick is a glaring lack of consistency from you, don't you have opinions and standards that you apply to everyone. If so why do you fail to display any consistency?

When you consistently attack 'patent troll' like a rabid dog, then suddenly come out with...

That's actually a pretty good reason for the tech industry to think about participating in the case even if they don't like Dotcom at all and don't want to be associated with him.

here you suggesting the tech companies comply with Kim's demands, suggesting they 'buy into' this extortion.

Then this half assed, piece of advise for Kim...

That said, the threat of suing over a patent if they don't fund his defense seems like a potentially poorly thought out strategic move that could backfire.

so not immoral, not illegal, not 'bad patent' but just "poorly thought out strategic move"..

Geez, that would send me running for the hill's, such a forceful attack Mansick..

But if it had of been Prenda and not Kim fatman I am sure you would have been OUTRAGED !!!!

This article clearly shows how two-faced and inconsistent you are.

It also makes it very clear that you don't really have the conviction of your words.

so now we all know how you really feel, and your real motives. It's clear you don't actually really mean most of the stuff you say.

But 'play favourites' and if it's someone you 'like' you will happily give up any pretence of standing up for what is right..

It's clear by the majority of posts here, that you have been exposed once again, as well what you have shown yourself to be here...

I wouldn't call "Protect and Serve" a gimmick. I don't think it means what it used to mean either.

You have to remember that cell phones are not like land lines, there is no known service address. So depending on several factors including the exact model of the phone, and what features are turned on, the equipment that the 911 system utilized - and even the location where the call took place the information immediately available could be quite limited. There is no "respond here" address.

They may well have had to contact the carrier to get the owner information, as well as triangulation information, which depending on location may yield an area as big as two or three city blocks for them to search. Granted they can do this fairly quickly, but it still takes time and according to the article the 911 called occurred just moments before the murder.

I am not saying they couldn't have arrested him before he committed the murder, but they couldn't have charged him with murder either, only conspiracy to commit. I am also saying depending on location and equipment available to the local PD it could take time to locate the phone that made the call.

It simply is not realistic to say, "they received the call they should have prevented the murder".

Think of it like baseball. You know the batter is going to hit the ball, but the other team doesn't always catch the ball. Sometime the batter even gets a home run.

Nice red herring attempt there.

Free speech may not grant one the 'right' to be listed on a search engine, but it does require one to have the opportunity to be heard(whether anyone listens is something else entirely), and multiple studios filing blatantly bogus DMCA claims to get a film de-listed and hidden, therefor doing everything they can to make it so he cannot be heard, is very much a violation of his freedom of speech.

Also, regarding your attempt above to make this out to be some scheme by the filmmaker to raise awareness of the film... I just can't help but laugh at that. Do you honestly think he could have convinced even one of those studios, never mind all four, to help promote a film that presents a view of the happenings regarding The Pirate Bay that contradicts and/or is diametrically opposed to how they've been telling it? Something that would if not destroy, at least bring into question their credibility regarding the claims they've been making about TPB?

That is exactly how I see it. I think it was Obama buying about 30 minutes of tv-time for a commercial in 2008.

The question in the current legal climate would be if Hines has to buy the TV-time - which would get excruciatingly expensive - or if it is a neutral and balanced program without any political undertones. The whole question has to be answered through a more indebt analysis of the episodes.

When that is said, CBS is morally doing very bad in terms of timing. Had they decided to run the series after the election (and they could easily have done so...), there would be little reason to question the integrity!
