Are you paid to be a stupid baiting troll, or are you doing it for free?

The point of prior art isn't to show that someone is an exact method duplication end to end but rather to show that, for people knowledgable in the art, that this patent was not something particularly new or inventive. Rather, it's more of a retelling of systems that have been around for decades, plus the old "with a computer", which as the standard thing before you could use "on the internet".

Considering that Techdirt is all against stupid patents, I am shocking that Mike Masnick didn't rip Kim a strip for a very derivative and evident patent, the type of thing he would do for anyone he doesn't like.

What's your excuse? Didn't you get paid enough to troll fully?

For chemists, electronics engineers, and medical careers I agree. These are proper science and engineering fields and should remain as they are, more or less.
Things that are not proper science or the application of it though? They're better taught in trade schools or learned on the job. Spending years and thousands of dollars on a degree for them is foolish beyond belief and does no good for anyone except the universities.
The humanities? They're another discussion entirely; a fair number of their degrees have no career path whatsoever outside teaching them to the next batch of students.

"To be fair, that is probably more an issue of caution on the part of the production crew/Discovery."

That. I've dealt with the Discovery channel before, not for Mythbusters, but another show. They're so paranoid about what's shown. The company I was working with at the time had to remove anything and everything with names that weren't directly involved with the recording. The event calendars had to be removed from the tables out of fear that some small band name might be shown.

Hell, the agreement I had to sign just to be in the same building was insane to possibly the point of unenforceable. Funny thing is, I was the only one to read it before signing it.

Spying on journalists isn't only bad in theory, it is bad in reality.

News organizations are referred to as "the Fourth Estate", which is from the Edmund Burke quote that there were Three Estates in Parliament; but, "in the Reporters' Gallery yonder, there sat a Fourth Estate more important far than they all."

The role of the Fourth Estate is to keep the other three "estates" or "branches" of our government--the executive, the judiciary, and the legislature--honest. Journalists cannot keep the government honest if people are afraid to report wrongdoing on the part of the government to the Fourth Estate, which is exactly what this particular bit of spying was meant to do--frighten whistleblowers.
