Bait & Switch: O2 iPad Customers Told Data Allowance Cut Up To Two Thirds

from the that-hurts dept

Ok, so you bought an iPad in the UK with O2 and you signed up for either the 3GB data plan or the 500MB data plan. It's been a few months, and you're already recognizing how limiting those data caps are... and O2 tells you that they're already giving you too much. mike allen points us to the news that O2 has announced to many users who did not realize this, that this rate was really just promotional, and the actual data rates are really just 2GB and 200MB, despite what people thought they had signed up for. That must feel good...

start your own phone/internet company? Someone needs to stand up and offer a good damn service to consumers instead of finding more ways to piss them off.

And if you offer 'Unlimited' something, you better mean it too. 5gb is not unlimited.

If anyone wins the lottery, please start one of these companies up and show them BIG companies how its done.

This is mobile phone sleaze. Situation normal. What is it about running a mobile phone network that makes all ethics go out the window?

T-Mobile in the US really has an unlimited plan (not "unlimited") if you get an Android phone.

DSLReports.com has been on top of these companies lowering their caps to make sure that many more people hit the cap and thus pay more per month

This "Most don't hit the 2 gig cap" line is so bogus and unfactual ESPECIALLY considering how MORE AND MORE are using their products MORE AND MORE

Hell, most of the reasons for using the products MORE is because the companies are encouraging it.

It makes no sense for customers

It's not only illegal, but grounds for termination by any customers who are charged at this rate. PLUS, any customers get to keep the products, due to the Distance-Selling Regulations.

The only problem is that their 3G coverage is severly lacking when compared to other companies.

I love the quote from the O2 spokesperson.

"The vast majority of iPad customers are using under 2 GB per month and will not be affected by this change. Those who are can purchase more data if they wish."

Oh of course. Anything to help the customer.

Time for a class-action lawsuit against this corporation, and to have them shut down.

Well it is kinda normal situation don't it? O2 gave us some rought time with tariff plans which in my opinion were way to high. The thing to do was a search for alternatives. I've found this site http://simtariff.com/. From there you can compare almost every plan from the most popular providers. It sure helps a little
