No, This Doesn't Sound Familiar

MIT's Technology Review has an article about a company that says it's got some high-frequency, high-speed wireless technology that can replace fiber optics. Sound familiar? It's pretty much the same claims as those made by companies that wanted to use lasers for similar purposes -- pretty much all of which failed. This company, for what it's worth, says its systems aren't susceptible to interruption by clouds or rain, as the laser systems were, but just like them, it requires a clear line of sight. The article takes all the company's claims at face value, but given all the hype around similar systems in the past that never panned out, and the constant claims made by one company after another in the space, it's hard not to be skeptical.
