UWB Standards Group Might Give Up

Just when the first ultra-wideband products were hitting the market, news comes that the UWB standards body might simply give up, unable to decide on one of two competing proposals after three years. The two camps now say it’s time to “let the market decide” — which seems to defeat the point of having standards bodies in the first place. The WiMedia Alliance, which was behind one of the proposals and counts TI and Intel among its backers, insisted that there should be only one UWB standard to prevent customer confusion. Apparently their desire to control the standard trumps any concern for customers.
