Phone Makers Complain To EU About Qualcomm

Six mobile phone manufacturers have filed complaints with the EU, alleging Qualcomm is violating EU anti-competition rules and commitments it made to standards bodies by licensing WCDMA patents at lower royalty rates to handset makers that exclusively buy its chips. It's a similar complaint to one filed in the US a few months ago by Broadcom, a rival chipmaker. This is just the latest development in a long-running battle over WCDMA patents, and certainly isn't the first time somebody's accused Qualcomm of unfairly throwing their weight around.

the entities accusing qualcomm of wrong doing (ericsson, nokia, etc.) are just as guilty as qualcomm. Qualcomm should ask for an investigation of the GSM alliance and its respective business practices as well as those of the individual members of that forum. Qualcomm is not necessarily innocent either.
