O2 Launches i-mode in the UK
O2 UK is the latest carrier to launch i-mode, saying it will open the service next week. An exec from the carrier says mobile Internet services need to be made easier and better -- which seems to be a fairly damning statement about O2's existing WAP portal, which it will keep going as well. i-mode technology gets a lot of credit for its success, but the huge revenue split O2 is offering to content providers and developers is a more likely enabler. It's hard to imagine people wouldn't line up to supply content to their WAP portal, too, if there was a similar deal in place.
