Earthlink Trying To Power Muni WiFi
Earthlink's strategy these days seems to be that they want to offer everything in terms of connectivity. They have dialup. They have DSL in some areas. The want to offer cable. They do WiFi via Boingo. They do VoIP. They do some wireless, and are going to expand that widely with SK-Earthlink. And, now, rather than fighting muni-WiFi, they're trying to convince cities to let them manage muni-WiFi implementations. The big thing that Earthlink fears, of course, is that they're going to get cut off from being able to piggyback on other DSL or cable networks, leaving them without a strong broadband strategy. So, this appears to be one attempt to hedge against that situation.
