SK Telecom Buys A Record Label
SK Telecom has believe for a while in helping to jumpstart the mobile data market with its own content. The latest move, as pointed out by MoCo News is a plan to buy a record label to have more content for its WiBro implementation and its mobile broadcasting solution. It's an interesting move in trying to jumpstart a market, but you have to wonder if buying the entire record label puts them in a difficult position down the road of competing with potential partners (or being accused of anti-trust violations in bundling music with phone service when they hold a dominant position in the mobile market). It may work to jumpstart the market, but it could lead to problems when the market becomes more mature. Update: In the comments below, Derek Kerton, who worked for SKT for 2.5 years, explains some of the reasons SKT might make this move.

moves like this make me question wibro. Broadband (wired) has succeeded because its a pipe that gives you access to lots of content from many sources. Mobile carriers need to realize they are not content providers or their platform will go nowhere.
