Standards And Patents: A Bad Combination
There's lots of press coverage today about Ericsson suing Sendo over GSM patents, but the more interesting part of this story isn't the lawsuit (which is just posturing), but that it's shining a bit more light on problems of patents being included in standards, which is leading companies to focus more on getting their piece, rather than coming up with the open and free standards that push the market forward and increase the overall pie.
